Earth Day!

  • Berkshire Food Co-op 34 Bridge Street Great Barrington, MA, 01230 United States (map)

EARTH DAY?! EARTH WEEK!!

For the entire week of April 16 through April 22, you can save 10% on anything you purchase from the hot bar, salad bar, coffee drinks, and the bulk department when you use your own non-disposable container! Bring your own coffee mug, bring your own metal lunch container, bring your own mason jars for bulk, etc. For example: instead of buying a package of rice or using one of the paper bags we provide, bring your rice jar from home (cleaned, of course) and you’ll save 10% on the rice you put in it!

Remember to weigh your empty non-disposable container and mark off the tare weight before filling it. If you’ve never tried shopping in bulk before, now’s the time to try! Any of our staff members are more than willing to walk you through it if you need pointers.

All of this will culminate in an Earth Day party on April 22nd. Here’s what we’ve got going on:

  • An Earth Day only special sandwich in the café! Grab a Green Goddess sandwich for only $8.99, Saturday only. What’s the Green Goddess? It’s cream cheese, pesto mayo, avocado, spinach, sprouts, cucumber on toasted multigrain bread.

  • Plant some three sisters with Turtle Tree Seeds to take home with you ($5 suggested donation to Berkshire Grown)! Plant seeds of squash, beans and sweet corn, the combination making up the three sisters. We’ll use organic compost mix and egg cartons.

  • Listen to some music from local musician Eli Elkus, a Traveling Musical Storyteller, Song Craftsman, and Folk Activist. He began sculpting his craft as a young troubadour fishin' for songs by the riversides and busking in the streets of New England. It was here the love of folk music and storytelling found him, connecting with perfect strangers through merit, meter, and melody-making story and song. And so it goes. The lazy-eyed dreamer and his familiar Bronco the hound wonder wander the US byways bringing folk music to the folks, freewheelin' in their road sweet home - 'JeBus'.

  • Sample some local sausage & salmon with our meat & sea department

  • Hear from Marty’s Local, a local food distributor, who will be here sampling some Co-op favorites! Stop by, grab a bite, and learn more about how they partner with regional farmers and food producers to strengthen our local food system and the direct impact this has on our local economy and environment.

  • Carrie from Finamill will be here

  • Our Board of Directors will talk about Ownership and give out reusable produce bags

  • Our Owner-led Plastic Reduction Committee will be here talking about their goals for our store

  • Try some “dirt cups” desserts from our own bakery
